My Directors Cut

If I were directing a remake of Obsession, I would change the ending. Although the movie is a horror film and the extreme events fit the genre, I would have preferred a more realistic conclusion rather than having the main characters killed.

In my version, the male main character would eventually end his relationship with her after realizing how obsessive and unhealthy her behavior had become.  Instead of the story ending with the characters being killed, she would continue to stalk and harass him after the breakup. She might show up unexpectedly, contact him repeatedly, follow him, or try to interfere with his relationships and daily life.

I think this would make the ending more realistic because obsessive behavior does not necessarily end when a relationship ends. It could also make the horror more psychological because the audience would be left wondering what she might do next. Rather than resolving the conflict through the deaths of the main characters, the movie would show the consequences of an unhealthy relationship and the difficulty of dealing with someone who refuses to accept that the relationship is over.
